Biking in the Dolomites

A must-see for mountain bike fans!

There are at least 30 tours between 700 and 2.450 metres in height for you to discover in the holiday region Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi. Everything from beginners’ routes to nerve-wracking trails for pros and summiteers.

The Dolomites may just be the world’s most beautiful mountains, according to mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner. They are definitely an ideal place for unforgettable MTB tours in staggering heights. The higher the better? Then, why not use one of the mountain lifts and start your tour on one of the logging roads, on open terrain or single trails and work your way from one valley to the other? Breathe in the mountain air filled with the smell of mountain herbs and flowers, cycle past rugged rocks, idyllic mountain huts and never-ending fields of alpine roses.

The new Freeride Parcours Ciampinoi is 3.130 metres long. It starts at the summit station of the Wolkenstein-Ciampinoi cable car at a height of 2.254 metres. A leisurely 550-metre-ride on a gravel road to the chair lift’s summit station brings you to the start of this exciting and nerve-wracking route. From there, the ride is not for the faint-hearted and leads down to the Pra Valentini hut in the valley. The trail is reserved for experienced bikers with appropriate gear.

    Bike Highlights

South Tyrol Sella Ronda Hero and Sella Ronda Bike Day

A distance of 86 km and heights of 4.500 metres are conquered by the participants of the Hero Bike Festival, which every summer turns the Dolomites into the capital of mountain biking for three days. This race is known as the world’s toughest mountain bike race and its winner will have earned the title “HERO OF THE HERO South Tyrol”. The shorter variant still represents a challenge with its 60 km distance and 3.200 metres in height. This shorter route is designed for those wanting to enjoy breath-taking views of Dolomites.

On the equally extraordinary Sella Ronda Bike Day, bikers conquer the four mountain passes Sella, Gardena, Pordoi and Campolongo. On this day, the streets to the mountain passes remain closed for motor traffic and are reserved for the bikers. Detailed information can be requested at the reception of Hotel Continental.
